A New Race From Egypt
The desert sands of Egypt harbor the foul yuan-ti, creatures who have sacrificed their humanity to serpentine gods in return for dark power, transforming themselves into serpentine monstrosities in the process. The children of someone who has come into contact with the yuan-ti or their magics can be born Tainted. As well, a living person captured by the yuan-ti can be made into a Tainted One…though most do not survive the process.
Scaled and Exotic
Taller and broader than most humans, Tainted Ones most closely resemble yuan-ti purebloods. However, their skin is often smoothly scaled, often with intricate patterns; forked tongues or serpentine eyes are commonplace. They stand between 6 and 7 feet tall and usually weigh between 180 and 250 pounds.
Where purebloods often attempt to hide their serpentine nature, tainted ones make no effort to hide it, by and large because they are well aware that the majority of the populace would suspect them if they did. Some theorize that the reason their scales are not as patchy as the yuan-ti’s is the result of Heka, the god of magic and transformation, allowing the pure nature of the tainted one’s soul (that is to say, not inherently corrupted by a commitment to a dark ritual, not necessarily “good”) to dictate a relatively natural form for its snakelike characteristics. Needless to say, such fine distinctions are often lost to the mass of society, who look upon Tainted Ones as a reminder of the yuan-ti with no small amount of fear and prejudice.
Cold Heart, Warm Blood
The magic that caused their creation created a strange dichotomy in the Tainted One. On the one hand, they are naturally and physically inclined to a slow, predatory view of the world, one which precludes strong emotional attachment to anything. On the other hand, they’ve usually been brought up their entire lives being told that such a heartless view is a hallmark of the dark evil that lurks inside of them, causing them to fight passionately against this tendency whenever they can, often flying into rages at inopportune times or overreacting because they feel they have to force themselves to feel an emotion.
In general, Tainted Ones pray to Horus for victory, Bast for protection, Sekhmet for strength in battle and Bes for luck.
Serfs and Scholars
A Tainted One has one thing going for him or her that’s rare in Egyptian society: there are no Tainted One slaves. No Egyptian will have one as a slave for fear of it “rubbing off” on his house, his other slaves, or his family. Most Tainted Ones live in slums and serve as laborers in mines and quarries since few wish them near food or water. However, many can find work as scholars and in temples, and with their great strength and fearsome appearance, they are often formed into their own segregated units of soldiery or guards.
Tainted One Traits

Age Tainted ones age at the same rate as humans.
Alignment. Tainted One alignment tends towards neutral with a slight bias towards that of their parents.
Size.. Tainted Ones are somewhat larger than humans, and range between 5 to 6 feet tall.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Yuan-Ti Inheritance. The serpentine transformative magiics of the yuan-ti have changed you to the point where you have a shadow of their resistances. You have advantage on saving throws against poison and anything that would give you the charmed condition, and you have resistance against poison damage.
That Which Does Not Kill Me, You were one of the lucky few not killed outright by the taint. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
Deceptive. A lifetime of having to fool people into believing that you can actually feel emotion has given you a knack for convincing others. You gain proficiency in either the Persuasion or the Deception skill.
Languages.: You can speak, read, and write Coptic and one extra language of your choice. Tainted Ones normally learn the languages of foreigners who don’t know any better than to not talk to them because they might catch something.
